The Alexandria Foundation awards 5 scholarships annually. We partner with Thurgood Marshall High School, Willowridge High School, Hightower High School, and Ridge Point High School to provide graduating seniors with funds for their first year of college.
The Alpha Academy Mentoring Program reinforces objectives that include (but are not limited to) leadership, setting SMART goals, effective communication, conflict resolution, time management, what it means to be a man, and eliminating bullying. During our sessions, we also engage the students on topics like interacting with police, drug & alcohol abuse, anger management and peer pressure.
Over a six-month period, volunteers read to and mentor 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade male students for one hour each week. The students choose the books they read (which are pre-selected by staff). Our task as “reading buddies” is to assist in improving comprehension, word usage and reading fundamentals. Simultaneously, we interact with the students regarding personal, social and behavioral issues that may challenge them.
The Alexandria Foundation honors and recognizes community charity partners by hosting a Race/Walk to raise funds for their respective initiatives. These partners have ranged from cancer research to mental health awareness. We take this opportunity to donate proceeds to these worthy charities.
